With the House majority clearly within reach, Republican leaders huddled in Florida this week to seek advice from the architect of the “Republican Revolution” almost three decades ago — former House Speaker Newt Gingrich — on how to launch their own political uprising in November.

Republicans are quite optimistic about their chances, since they only need a few seats to retake the House. With incumbent Democrats resigning in droves and President Joe Biden’s poll numbers plummeting amid profound voter dissatisfaction with the economy, many in the Democratic Party, including its leader Kevin McCarthy, saw the Republican win as a foregone conclusion.

They look up to Newt Gingrich, the guy who swept away four decades of Democratic House dominance in 1994 with the “Contract With America.” He spoke to House Republicans in Jacksonville, Fla., on Wednesday night as they prepared for the next campaign. His argument was simple: contrast the failing Democratic plan with what he dubbed the American people’s agenda.
