On Friday night, CNBC personality and past Fox News anchor Shepard Smith stood in for Lester Holt of “NBC Nightly News,” the network said.
CNN broke the news of the network’s intentions to have Smith stand in for Holt on Wednesday evening.
Smith joined NBCUniversal in June 2020 after a long career as an anchor and reporter at Fox News, where he presented “The Fox Report with Shepard Smith” from 1999 to 2013 and rose through the ranks of the network’s breaking news section to become managing editor in 2013.
On weeknights at 7 p.m., Smith anchors “The News with Shepard Smith” on CNBC.
Savana Guthrie, Kate Snow, and Peter Alexander are among the anchors and reporters that fill in on “Nightly News” on a regular basis. In 2015, Holt took over as the anchor of the network’s flagship nightly broadcast.
Smith was in the anchor chair for the first time on Friday.
